As some of you know, Wendy started us all off on the right foot on New Year's with the fabulous "KNIT FROM YOUR STASH" yarn diet. I've been really, really good, and haven't even cheated ONCE...yet. Even though Laura keeps sending me comments about fabulous yarn sales...on CASHMERE! (Love you, Laura!) AARGH! But I have been a ROCK! No new yarn!
Added to that, I decided to join the Kat's 2007 UFO Resurrection Challenge. I figured that I had enough projects on needles to take me through most of the year! I promised that I would not cast on any new projects until I had finished one that I had started. All year!
AND, on top of THAT, I started back on Atkins...the "If I can't eat a cracker/chip/anything crunchy soon, I'm going to shrivel up and die" diet! Dog knows, I need to lose weight! I need to be able to knit sweaters that don't require 2000 yards of yarn! I mean, if I want to do a Fair-Isle Sweater, or worse, a Bohus sweater, on little bitty needles, I want a 36 inch chest! Not, I repeat, NOT a 48!
Now, I've given you the history...maybe you can figure out what's wrong.
I've been knitting. Yes, not as much as I would like, but as much as time (and Ass-headed Bottom) will permit. But, I find myself wasting much time poring over patterns and books! Dreaming. Wishing. Planning what the first project I'll cast on when I finish what I have on my needles. Fondling my stash...just running my fingers over some Rowan for Arwen. Some Trekking XXL for toe up socks. Some Aruncania "Patagonia" for a sweater.
Well, I think we all understand that! I mean, I've given up buying YARN, for goodness sake! But what really frightened me, what really made me decide to share this with ya'll...I've started DREAMING about KNITTING! I'm not talking about a dream in which I happen to be knitting, I mean the WHOLE THING IS ABOUT KNITTING! I'm designing sweaters. I'm knitting to get out of purgatory (this may have to do with Dunadd)! I even had a dream where I was knitting a very complex Kaffe-like Fair Isle, and Stephanie was jealous! This has gone on for about a week! Is the Universe trying to tell me something? Or am I suffering from Acute Stash-Reduction Syndrome (A.S.S.)? Maybe it's just because I really like buying yarn (almost as much as I like carbohydrates)! You know how, when you start a diet, you dream of food that you can't have? Or is it something else.... Should I seek help? From whom should I seek it? Is there a knit shrink in the house? (Yes, I know it is a faux pas to say the words knit and shrink in the same sentence, unless you're talking about felting!)
Birch leaves are fallen!
Do you remember these:
Knit in SOCKS THAT ROCK, "Peasblossom"
This is the first pair of socks that I've knit for MYSELF from STR...and I have to let you know that these are HEAVEN on your feet! Like walking on feathers...or roving! Fabulous! The pattern isn't all that difficult, as I basically knit these everywhere...work...lines...car (No, not driving!). I just photocopied the chart and tucked it into my bag....worked great! The repeats are predictable and the heels were easy-peasy, but sturdy! I wasn't sure I would like the varigated colorway on the lace pattern...I was afraid it would obscure the lovely leaves, but I don't think so.....what do you think? I would DEFINITELY knit this one again!
When I grow up...I wanna by like Lucy!
On a recent blog entry, our lovely Harlot mentioned knitting DVD's by Lucy Neatby. On her recommendation, I ordered them. After all, I only just started knitting, so I figured that they'd help me fill in some gaps. And after listening to her interview on Brenda's podcast, I was even more certain that they would be helpful. Just how helpful, I had no idea!
I've got to tell you that these are fabulous! The way she does a provisional cast on is SO FREAKING EASY! No looking for the bump to knit into....simply crochet the damn thing on the needle! I mean...did she think this up all by herself?!!? And why didn't anyone else (including me, who used to crochet) figure this out?!? (Or DID they?) And I have GOT to knit the sweater she's wearing!!! Colors EVERYWHERE! Every time I watch a little of these, I learn something new (or at least a new WAY to do some things I already knew about) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
...and his name shall be....DuPont?
Yes, the remaining Pup-let is doing great! And is now named "DuPont" after the team which sponsors Jeff Gordon for NASCAR. Okay, I wanted to name him "Man of Las Manchas" (Man of the Spots), or Nino (imagine the tilde, will you?), or "Chico"....but no, Ass-Headed Bottom came up with DuPont....and since he's been arguing that we have way too many animals (we do), we all caved in and let him....so we get to KEEP HIM!
So, without further ado, meet DuPont:
